Kraus Anderson Commission
As a company with a 100-year history of building some of Minnesota’s most iconic buildings, Kraus Anderson commissioned me to create a 3 x 8′ painting in their Minneapolis headquarters.
My concept was an abstract landscape that chronicles the highlights of the company’s legacy. It includes Goodfellow’s Dry Goods, the 1958 McDonald’s, the Miracle Mile Shopping Center, and Macy’s at the Mall of America.
Originally the client suggested an aerial view of the city. But I knew that if we wanted to include all of the buildings in their portfolio, it would be too broad of an area.
I used a combination of hand drawn sketches and computer-generated collage and painting to develop a working to-scale sketch that translated easily to the 3 x 8′ canvas.
